The NewberyBooks.com Story:
My 8-year-old-grandchild, Kate, was in a Newbery Book Club at school. I was only vaguely familiar with these award books or the story of the award. That Christmas I gave Kate several Newbery books and a journal listing all the Newbery books and a place for her to check off the books as she read them. I was curious and started reading the books too.
The first book I read was a Newbery Honor book, The 100 Dresses by Eleanor Estes. A sweet tribute about a young girl relating to kindness, acceptance, and standing up for what's right. It was a beautiful book of childhood emotions and values. I started searching for other Newbery books and haven’t stopped reading the Newbery books -- I’m on book #142. Growing up on a farm in Iowa we had few children’s books and no library close by. I missed a beautiful time in my life when I was young to read these stories about family life, struggling childhoods, crazy fun summers, and so forth. In keeping with one of my life's motto “It’s never too late, and I’m never too old”, at age 60 I began reading the Newbery Award books.
We want you to enjoy the Newbery books as many in my family do. We read and share the books among the adults and, of course, with our grandchildren , nieces and nephews.

My five sisters and one brother started a family ministry to help spread the Word of God by distributing free Bibles. We started by cleaning and repairing Bibles we found, distributed to family, friends, acquaintances, and prayed for the recipients. Over the years the ministry has grown and we now support individuals and small ministries all over the world with Bibles in the local language.
